IBM i (AS400, iSeries, System i) Users
We can upgrade your IBM POWER i (iSeries / AS400 systems) with V6R1 or V7R1 in about 2-3 times your System Save time.
That’s about 2-4 hours depending how much data you have.
We can do this wherever you are in the USA.
Because we have already done IBM i / i5/OS / iSeries / AS400 operating system upgrades hundreds of times all over North America.
Perhaps you’re wondering, “How the heck is that possible? A version upgrade or moving to a new server generally takes a weekend.”
Simple Answer: We do all the hard work offsite at our lab so the amount of your IBM i / i5/OS / iSeries / AS400 server’s downtime is negligible – about 4 hours or less.
Here’s How It Works.
First Send Us A Complete Backup.
You send us a complete Option 21 Save tape. We restore your IBM i / iSeries / AS400 server backup onto one of our servers. We have a portfolio of tape drives, so we can read most any format you send us.
We Also Test Your Backup Recovery Plan – An Added Bonus.
During the restore process as an added bonus we are also testing your backup process. You might be surprised to know that many of our clients have never completely tested their IBM i / iSeries / AS400 systems backups for a complete restore and probably wonder if they could truly recover from a disaster using their full system save and daily backup strategy. They are terrified of putting it to the test in a “fire drill” that somehow goes awry, yet always worried that an undiscovered glitch might prevent recovery in the event of a real disaster. We have heard IBM charges between $1500-$2000 to test and validate your IBM i / iSeries / AS400 systems backup.
We Migrate You To Your Preferred IBM i / i5/OS /OS400 Version – Offsite.
Once restored, we start the migration process to move your environment to V6R1 or V7R1. The upgrade to your IBM i / i5/OS / iSeries / AS400 operating system will be fast, safe, and convenient.
This process takes us just as long as if we were onsite – about 20 hours, plus or minus 5 hours, depending on a variety of factors. If you are 4-6 releases behind, this process can take way longer. And that’s assuming everything goes according to plan.
But because we are not onsite, your production IBM i / i5/OS / iSeries / AS400 system is not impacted. For companies that run 2-3 shifts, even on weekends, this is a big plus.
Even if you don’t run 2-3 shifts on weekends, it means your weekend will not be tied up with a conversion and set up. No more grueling, sleepless weekends.
You test remotely while your current IBM i / i5/OS / iSeries / AS400 Server continues production.
Once we have completed the version upgrade process, you dial into our server via VPN to start testing your “new system.” Test as long as you like. Most clients complete their testing between 2 to 4 weeks. When you are satisfied with the testing, we schedule the onsite set up and cutover.
Our Scheduled Onsite Migration Is About 4 Hours = Time To Set Up Your Server, Test, And Restore From Your Last Backup.
We ship in your system. We set up your new system and make sure everything is running OK. You give us the most recent backup of changed objects since the Option 21 Save, so we can bring your data current.
We Have Provided Our Clients All Over The Country A Safe, Smooth Migration With Our 4-Hour Version Upgrade
We have provided IBM i / i5/OS / iSeries / AS400 server users with our 4-hour Version Upgrade all over the USA – we don’t need to be local to do a great job for you. We have done all the testing and flushed out all the surprises before we even come to your location to install your new server.
What Our Customers Say:
“I Got The Easiest Migration In My IT Career”
“Not only was our migration less expensive with Source Data Products, it was the easiest migration in my IT career. What really made the difference was the approach that Source Data takes to migrate the system. We gave them a complete backup and they did all the work offsite. Our production continued to operate and we tested our new system remotely until we were ready to bring it onsite."
“I have migrated from a System/38 to 9406-D40, to a 9406-300, to a 9406-500 and to a 9406-720 before our 9406-820. I have had marathons where I was up all weekend praying the migration went well. This migration from our 9406-820 to our new IBM Power 7 felt about as close to turn-key as possible.”
“My Migration From Our 9406-820 To Our New 9406-525 Took Less Than 4 Hours”
“I gave a complete copy of my system to Source Data. At their tech center, Source Data upgraded it from V5R2 to V5R4 and loaded it on our new 9406-525. When our new Power 5 arrived onsite, our migration from our 9406-820 to our new 9406-525 took less than 4 hours.”
“Source Data Products Made The Transition From The 9406-520 To The New 8203-E4A Seamless”
“What I really liked is after we ordered the IBM Power I server, it shipped to SDP’s Data Center where their techs preloaded my system. So when my server came on site, we had everything set up in about 4 hours on a Sunday. This is a really big deal!”
“On Monday, the users were thrilled with the performance improvement. In a following manager’s meeting, I received congratulations on a job well done and a round of applause. That’s great, too.”
“In the past I hired IBM to do our upgrade. IBM would come onsite for the whole weekend. They would back everything up, do the install, restore it all, and test everything. Of course, there are always bumps along the upgrade road. It was a huge and time-consuming undertaking. And, everything at IBM rates.”
“I gladly recommend the SDP 4-Hour Version Upgrade.”
“We Were Back Up In 2 Hours.”
“Your tech Mark took the drives put of our test Power 5 server with our complete system upgraded to V7R1 and swapped them in our production 9406-520. He then restored the data from our backup done the night before. We were back up after 2 hours. Very, very, very cool.”
“There Was No Downtime.”
“Your Power i tech Matt said your High Availability solution could replicate our Retalix system from our 9406-800 on V5R3 to our new 9406-520 with V5R4 without the need for a complete backup or downtime. This way, we just role-swapped production from the 9406-800 to the 9406-520. There was no downtime. We saved 20 hours.”
“Source Data Delivered Our Power 6 With Our System Upgraded to V6R1 And Ready To Go.”
“We worked closely with Source Data to develop a migration plan to ship the 8203-E4A POWER 6 servers to SDP’s technology center for the initial migration and testing of all of the applications in V6R1."
"A traditional version upgrade and migration generally takes 18 to 30 hours. By shipping the servers to SDP, our production and test environment would not be impacted by this one-time migration.”
“I shipped a copy of my system to Source Data to upgrade my environment to V7R1, preload my new POWER i and have it ready for testing."
"The whole process was very smooth. Overall, Source Data did a great job and was always very accommodating to my busy schedule.”
Offsite OS400 Version Upgrade Was Hassle-Free – Our Migration Was Really Easy
“Working with Source Data on our OS400 was hassle-free – really easy. I sent Source Data a backup tape from our system. In a couple of days he had our applications migrated to V7R1 on a server at the Source Data tech center. I just had to make some minor tweaks to our software. The process was seamless."
