First Send Us A Complete Backup.
You send us a complete Option 21 save tape. We restore your backup onto one of our servers. We have a portfolio of tape drives, so we can read most any format you send us.
We Also Test Your Backup Recovery Plan – An Added Bonus.
During the restore process as an added bonus we are also testing your backup up process. You might be surprised to know that many of our clients have never completely tested their backups for a complete restore and probably wonder if they could truly recover from a disaster using their full system save and daily backup strategy. They are terrified of putting it to the test in a “fire drill” that somehow goes awry, yet always worried that an undiscovered glitch might prevent recovery in the event of a real disaster. We have heard IBM charges between $1500-$2000 to test and validate your backup.
We Migrate You To Your Preferred OS400 Version – Offsite.
Once restored, we start the migration process to move your environment to V6R1 or V7R1.
This process takes us just as long as if we were onsite – about 20 hours, plus or minus 5 hours, depending on a variety of factors. If you are 4-6 releases behind, this process can take way longer. And that’s assuming everything goes according to plan.
But because we are not onsite, your production is not impacted. For companies that run 2-3 shifts, even on weekends, this is a big plus.
Even if you don’t run 2-3 shifts on weekends, it means your weekend will not be tied up with a conversion and set up. No more grueling, sleepless weekends.
You Test Remotely While Your Current Server Continues Production.
Once we have completed the version upgrade process, you dial into our server via VPN to start testing your “new system.” Test as long as you like. Most clients complete their testing between 2 to 4 weeks. When you are satisfied with the testing, we schedule to onsite set up and cutover.
